TL;DR:
🎮 Trove is becoming more than just a marketplace - it is the new destination for gaming on Treasure.
👀 Trove will unlock new ways to drive play, discovery, and interoperability for games powered by Treasure. All of this is created with both players and game builders in mind.
3 new features are planned to come to Trove under a new ‘Proof of Play’ framework: TreasureXP, Treasure Quests, and Treasure Achieve.
TreasureXP is a meta experience system that will serve as the recognition of your actions across Treasure. It will be earned and used to unlock new rewards and perks.
Treasure Achieve is a new interoperable badges and achievements framework that games can use to enrich their game experience and players can collect for prestige and rewards.
Treasure Quests is a cross-ecosystem meta quest framework that will foster game exploration and reward player participation.
💳 MoonPay fiat onramp integration is live to enable players in 160+ countries to buy MAGIC, ETH, and USDC on Arbitrum directly using their credit card, wire transfers, and ACH.
⏭️ What’s next?: (1) building ‘Proof of Play’ through new infra; (2) empowering game builders and creators; and (3) games launching soon and upcoming events.
Trove’s history and lessons learned
First, some history.
As Treasure’s core marketplace that launched around this time last year, Trove has grown with the rest of the Arbitrum ecosystem as one of its earliest marketplaces. Trove began as a way to support Treasure’s initial games (Smolverse and Bridgeworld) and used MAGIC as the sole denomination. As the Treasure community grew, so too did the demand from builders who hoped to list their projects as well. In June, Trove relaunched as a generalized, curated marketplace to list a wide range of collections (PFPs, art, access passes, and more) to serve the rest of Arbitrum with ETH support.
Along the way, there was a divergence in Trove’s mission. Creating a marketplace built primarily for games that also had a place for non-gaming projects led to an awkward division of Trove, unintentionally creating a two-class system. And the features we wanted to build to power gaming were limited by this overarching decision. With the advent of OpenSea and the growing landscape of generalized marketplaces supporting Arbitrum, Trove is taking its next step to lean deeper into creating the best experience for games possible.
Evolving into the destination for gaming on Treasure
“The destination for gaming on Treasure.” - Sounds cool but what does it really mean?
Trove will be more than just a marketplace. It will be where you go to discover and gain access to games #PoweredByTreasure – games that use MAGIC, integrate Treasure NFTs, and/or have some level of interoperability across Treasure games.
As our roster of games at Treasure continues to grow, Trove’s experience has been reimagined to drive actions towards play and discoverability. Its entire experience has been overhauled to offer an interface built for gaming and a persistent sidebar that will bring attention to events unfolding across our games. Whether that be upcoming mints, launches, or in-game events, players will now have access to this at the click of a single button. This also sets the foundations for other planned products and features.
Last week, we launched Nova support to provide marketplace coverage for games building on Arbitrum and we will be continuing to expand our partnerships with games, whether they be on Arbitrum One or Arbitrum Nova.
The enhanced focus on gaming paves the way for the eventual release of three major features coming soon to Trove that will be used by both players and games under the ‘Proof of Play’ framework: TreasureXP, Treasure Achieve, and Treasure Quests.
Proof of Play: TreasureXP, Treasure Achieve and Treasure Quests
Treasure has a unique opportunity to deliver on fun, composable gaming. At our core, we are a vibrant community of game builders, creators and players aligned around a common purpose – to create a connected ecosystem of games and communities, underpinned by shared values and interoperable resources and infrastructure. Treasure's 'Proof of Play' framework will bring this vision to life via Trove, the gateway to gaming experiences on Treasure.
As a team of gamers ourselves, we are constantly learning from the games we play and the tools you use to access them. While it’s not a perfect analog, we’re inspired by how Steam and the Epic Games Store drive distribution for games and enable the personalization of your experience as a player. Applying a reimagined model across our interconnected ecosystem of games will enable us to develop, initially, three new pieces of core game and player infrastructure.
TreasureXP is a meta experience system that will sit across everything in the Treasure ecosystem and will serve as recognition of your actions, contributions, and accomplishments. It will be earned through play, achievements in-game, and positive contributions that will seed your profile and reputation within the ecosystem. TreasureXP will be used to unlock and access exciting new rewards and perks that can be used across Treasure.
Treasure Achieve is the working name of our planned interoperable badges and achievements framework that will be surfaced within Trove and reach across all games on Treasure. The framework will be extensible and will allow for game builders to manage their own achievements system while plugging into Trove.
Beyond the sweet visuals that will be themed and designed to each game partner, badges will showcase your achievements and contribute to the accrual of TreasureXP, unlocking new opportunities to redeem rewards.
Treasure Quests will be a powerful cross-game funnel to foster accomplishments and actions across the Treasure ecosystem. It is designed to drive actions through regular quests (eg. daily or weekly) both intra- and inter-game in a way that is both fun for players and valuable for game builders. For players, Treasure Quests will reward player participation through TreasureXP and potentially other rewards of in-game items, badges and achievements, and cosmetic perks. We will be partnering with games to design engaging quests and incentive programs within Trove that will drive distribution and new player acquisition through educational and experiential means.
Together, these new systems will power “Proof of Play” within Treasure and enable deeper interoperability between games. This will level up the player experience from the moment they first discover our gaming ecosystem through to being a seasoned completionist.
"Gotta achieve them all!"
The exact design for these is still in flux and we look forward to sharing more details as we progress.
Empowering game builders and creators
Beyond TreasureXP, Treasure Quests, and Treasure Achieve, the new and improved Trove will offer games greater distribution and reach to grow their player bases and communities through our spotlight and live showcase of upcoming mints, events, streams, and other forms of content.
Since launch, we are proud to feature visual and comprehensive token pages that allow your in-game assets and collectibles to be expressed the way you want and need for your players. Dynamic and evolving metadata? Staking? Soulbound NFTs? Trove can power it all.
We also plan to build out additional marketplace infrastructure that will enable built-in minting and launchpad capabilities from within Trove so game builders are able to focus on the important things – building great games.
On the creator end, we have been forging partnerships with content creators to create win-win relationships. Fun and engaging games for creators, more distribution and rich content for games. We see Trove as a powerful future distribution channel for content and start to activate these partnerships directly within the marketplace over time.
MoonPay: Powering Trove’s fiat onramp
We’ve partnered with MoonPay, an industry leader in payments, to power Trove’s new fiat onramp experience, making it easier than ever for players across 160 countries to obtain MAGIC, ETH, or USDC on Arbitrum directly using their credit card, wire transfers, and ACH.
Easing the friction to getting started with games on Treasure is paramount and partnering with a leading provider like MoonPay is just one of many steps we’re taking. More to come on this new exciting partnership.
